METSEL is designed to easily collect and display meteorological information to the end user. As part of the METLAB family of products, METSEL provides the means for the forecaster or ProdGen to communicate meteorological data and graphical products to the end user, which can include, pilots, airline dispatch operations, air traffic control agencies, or anyone in need of weather information.

Through automation, METSEL provides a superior solution for composing weather briefings. Users can view individual products or weather briefings which are composed of specialized data geared to the end user. METSEL has automatic and manual modes.
Automatic Flight Documentation (AFD)
The AFD automatically processes and prints a flight document package by prompting the pilot for the destination and flight level. The most current enroute weather information is compiled, including graphical, text products, and any significant weather watches or warnings. The user (pilot or forecaster) enters a destination, chooses a flight level, then selects the PRINT pushbutton--at which point the AFD prepares the flight meteo package. While the AFD package is printing, the user is free to view other products while waiting.
Manual Flight Documentation
The Manual Display mode allows users to view the most current products maintained in the SBS inventory. Typical meteorological products available for viewing include satellite, radar, alphanumeric, DIFAX, briefings, cross sections and surface weather depictions. Users can also print individual products as needed.
